Description
Native from southern Alaska to Colorado, the Snowberry is a densely branched, deciduous shrub with rhizomatous roots. Although it has bell-shaped white flowers that have an unpleasant odor and berries that are high in saponin, making them bitter, the shrub is an important source for wildlife in the form of nesting, shelter, and food. The berries can also be used to treat skin aliments such burns, rashes, and sores. Snowberries tolerate most soil types, but grow best in heavy clay.
Landscaping: Plant in sun to partial shade.
