Zone Definition
The USDA Zone Hardiness standards are based on the lowest average minimum temperatures for an area and are used by growers to select plants that are most likely to do well in their area.
Zone designations indicate the relative hardiness of a species and should be used to determine which plants are most likely to survive in your area. For more information visit:

As a rule of thumb, Zone 1 plants are know to be more winter hardy than Zone 2 plants, and Zone 2 plants are know to be more winter hardy than Zone 3 plants.
