Description
A medium-sized, upright, round shrub with branching tendencies that has clusters of magnificent, black, round berries. The plant will ultimately reach 4′ high with a 3′ spread. The berry is tart with distinctive black currant taste and great for jellies, jams, frozen berry blends, juices, and winemaking. Black currants are very popular in Europe and used to flavor pastries, candy, and liqueur (creme de cassis). This is a self-pollinating shrub that doesn’t require a second plant to set fruit.
Landscaping: Great in edible landscaping, food forests, and row plantings. Needs average to moist conditions and full sun to slight shade.
Size: 9″ tall in 6″ pots. 1-2 years old.
Zone: Typically Zone 3 but locally grown and overwintered in Zone 2 at Moose Creek Farm.
